Fr. John Schmidt, C.Ss.R., superior/co-director of formation

Fr. Binh Ta, C.Ss.R., co-director of formation

Seelos House is the site of the post-novitiate formation program where both Brother candidates and candidates for the priesthood prepare for perpetual vows.

The main academic component of this formation program is study at Catholic Theological Union (CTU) in Chicago. CTU offers a flexible Master of Divinity degree that prepares students for full-time professional ministry in the Roman Catholic Church. This four-year graduate program consists of classroom learning, guided ministerial experience, and personal and spiritual formation. The degree program has two tracks: one for those seeking to do lay ministry in the Church, and one for those preparing for ordination. The amount of time Brother candidates spend at Seelos House depends on their course of study.

Together with their studies at CTU, students gather regularly for morning and evening prayers, Mass, common reflection and meditation. They schedule individual meetings with their formation directors as well as work on specific goals that they outline for each year. These goals cover the five dimensions the Redemptorist Congregation considers critical for a student’s initial and continuing formation: human, spiritual, community, academic/ professional, and pastoral.
